(LB1) Manager of Professional Development

London | £40,000.00 Per Annum

This is an opportunity to lead on the development of professional development and training.

The employer is a long-established, high-profile, professional membership body that acts as a champion of the profession that it represents. It is active in all parts of the British Isles.

The purpose of the role is two-fold: (a) to help drive membership value; and (b) to enhance the organisation’s competitive advantage and the commercial benefit it receives from its programmes.

★ This is a permanent, full-time post
★ Once a return to the office is permitted, the role will be based out of central London offices (working from home 1-2 days a week flexibly if desired).
★ Some travel within the British Isles.
★ Salary up to c. £40,000.  Staff benefits include: 26 days holiday + up to 4 days over the festive break; employer pension contribution up to 12%
★ Leading a team of two, you will be responsible for the annual training programme (currently 80 events) – its planning, development, management, and implementation.
★ Whilst all CPD is currently online, our client expects a return to a 50:50 split between face to face and online.


You will be responsible for the annual training programme – its planning, development, management, and implementation. The goal is help establish and consolidate the organisation’s position as the go-to provider of training for the profession it represents.

To achieve this, you’ll need a strong understanding of professional development and training, including the techniques they involve, the factors that make them successful, and how they can be evaluated. In particular, you’ll have a strong understanding of online learning and experience of virtual learning environments.

You will require a commercial outlook. This will need to be supported by business acumen, experience of bringing products to market, and the ability to manage a budget.

You’ll also need to be able to work effectively with a variety of people. This requirement includes (a) managing a small team, (b) liaising with Directors and Heads of Service, and (c) commissioning and managing consultants. You’ll need strong interpersonal and communication skills to support this work.

★ If you are a non-experienced line manager but would love to manage a team, do still apply! You must however have experience of mentoring colleagues and/or managing temporary staff and/or interns.

Implicit in the above requirements is (a) the need to work with data and information technology, including the use of CRM databases and (b) strong self-management skills, especially in the area of prioritisation of tasks.
