We are working with a leading professional membership organisation to recruit a Membership Director – Business to play a pivotal role in shaping support, engagement, and influence for senior professionals working in industry.

This is a high-profile leadership role within the organisation’s Membership directorate, with responsibility for driving a compelling value proposition for members in business, strengthening engagement with senior industry leaders, and ensuring members’ expertise informs public policy and thought leadership.

The role

As Membership Director – Business, you will lead the development and delivery of support for members working across industry, ensuring they have access to world-class guidance, insight, and professional value. You will work closely with senior colleagues across the organisation to align member engagement, policy, learning, and commercial activity, and to position business members as a vital voice in shaping external influence.

You will also lead activity across key technical and policy areas, including corporate reporting, financial services, and governance and ethics, ensuring members are supported on the issues that matter most to modern business leadership.

Key responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the value proposition for members working in industry, driving engagement and long-term relevance
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with senior business leaders, including Chairs, Board members, C-suite executives, and Non-Executives
  • Lead technical policy, thought leadership, and member guidance across corporate reporting, governance, ethics, and related areas
  • Establish effective channels to gather insight from members in business and translate this into impactful public policy input
  • Collaborate closely with regional, international, learning, and commercial teams to ensure aligned and accessible member support
  • Work with commercial colleagues to support sustainable revenue growth while identifying and managing reputational risk
  • Inspire, lead, and develop a high-performing, inclusive team

About you

You will be a credible senior leader with significant experience in a membership, professional body, or business-facing environment, and a strong understanding of how to engage senior industry stakeholders.

You will bring:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience within a membership, professional services, or business support organisation
  • A proven track record of developing and delivering strategic member value propositions
  • Experience of technical policy, thought leadership, or professional guidance (e.g. corporate reporting, governance, ethics)
  • Success building trusted relationships with senior executives and Board-level stakeholders
  • Strong collaborative and commercial awareness
  • A recognised professional qualification
