How a talent team works: Maria McNiven

Anthony Haynes writes: On this blog we run an occasional series introducing members of our team. The aim is two-fold: to help our stakeholders to get to know us better; and to explain how the team in a talent agency works.

Here I interview Maria McNiven (pictured left)

So your job title is Resourcing Partner. Could you tell us more about what that involves?

Mostly just speaking to people! I screen candidates and clients for different vacancies we deal with and around that I try to engage members of our database as much as possible.

I particularly enjoyed researching some of our loyal clients during my induction – it really helped me gain insight into how different organizations are run and how much workplace culture can vary between industries.

What does your working day/week look like?

I usually start the day getting organized for any meetings or calls and chat with my teammates on anything that needs to be sorted for the day. No day or week is really the same.

What attracting you to working in talent acquisition?

I am a people person and following completion of a qualification in HR I was eager to use some of the skills I learned in practice.

My greatest motivator is making a difference and helping people out – so I knew talent acquisition would tick all those boxes.

It’s been a great feeling being the bearer of happy news and seeing people achieve their goals.

What kind of work were you doing before you came to FJWTS?

A little bit of everything related to business support! I dabbled in social media content creation and marketing.

And what about you out of work: what do you like doing?

I’m a trained jeweler and though it used to be my work it’s remained a passion and hobby of mine.

I also love learning new things and seeing new places but also appreciate a quiet rainy day in with my Playstation
