Head of Governance and Executive Office - (3 months PAYE assignment)

We are working with a well-established and respected professional institution seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Governance and Executive Office on a temporary basis. This is a pivotal leadership role working at the heart of the organisation, providing high-quality strategic support to the Chief Executive, Board, Council and President.
You will take ownership of governance frameworks, lead a central project management office, and ensure the smooth running of secretariat functions, including elections and committee coordination. You will also oversee our member mentoring scheme and play an active part in driving organisational improvement.

Assignment length: 3 months
Gross Pay rate (PAYE): £30-£33 per hour + holiday pay
Location: Hybrid working – London EC1V - 3/2 days office, 2/3 days home
Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, 0900 - 1700
The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
· Knowledge of charity/not-for-profit governance legislation (Charter status, Byelaws, Regulations).
· Proven experience supporting a Chief Executive or senior leader across governance and organisational-wide activity.
· Demonstrated experience setting up and managing a central PMO, with strong reporting against KPIs.
· Experience acting as secretary to boards and committees, including minute-taking and working with trustees.
· Strong understanding of regulatory compliance (GDPR and similar) and experience managing compliance processes.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfortable presenting complex information clearly to senior audiences.
· Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities under pressure.
· Experience working with volunteers and coordinating election processes.
· Experience managing and leading a small team.
· Tact, diplomacy, high integrity and sound judgement; confident working with senior volunteer members and external stakeholders.
· IT proficiency: Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint to at least intermediate standard.
